Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle explosion and fire at the end of Valley boulevard, around 3:30 am.
Assistant Fire Chief Ed Quinto told News of the North, what the scene looked like when he arrived.
"I was a first officer on scene. The vehicle, which was a 2001 rav4 Toyota, was fully engulfed in fire. It was reported with some explosion and it was probably the tires or a combination of tires and paint cans that was inside the back that appeared to be back there, and it could have been the airbags that could have exploded also," said Quinto.
According to the chief, no one was close to the car when it exploded.
"The fire marshal was on the scene this morning and he'll be investigating the cause of the fire. He is stating it as intentional arson, so he will go that route, and he'll be investigating it with the Juneau police department," said Quinto. "The car fire was in the middle of a culdesac at the turnaround at the end of Valley boulevard so there was no exposure that we had to worry about"
No injuries have been reported.
CCFR is asking anyone with information to contact Fire Marshal Daniel Jager at 586-5322 ext. 4323.
