USFS to host public meetings on Alaska Roadless Rule in Gustavus, Petersburg

    Petersburg, Alaska (KINY) - The US Forest Service is seeking public comments and will host public information meetings throughout Alaska and Washington, D.C., through Nov. 14, as the agency continues to develop a durable Alaska Roadless Rule.

    There are meetings scheduled for Gustavus and Petersburg on Thursday, Nov. 7.

    The Gustavus meeting will be at the Gustavus School Commons from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A Subsistence Hearing will follow, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

    The Petersburg meeting will be at the Petersburg Borough, Assembly Chambers, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A Subsistence Hearing will follow, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

    Members of the public have until Tuesday, Dec. 17, to comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Proposed Rule.

    The public meeting includes an overview of the Alaska Roadless Rulemaking process, the proposed Rule, and the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, followed by a question and answer session period. While information will be provided on submitting written comments, oral comments will not be taken during this event.

    The subsistence hearing follows the public meeting and Includes opportunities for recorded and transcribed public testimony, but no additional informational presentations.
